Gail Simone at WonderCon

For the first time in a long time, Gail Simone appeared at WonderCon! One of the royals of comic book writers was live and talked about all of the exciting projects that she has coming up as well as what it is like to be considered one of the royals of comic book writers. You might know her as my comics book soul mate or my idol. She is one of the pioneers of comic books for not just women who want to work in the industry. But for the female characters on the page as well. I can’t think of a single person in comics that has revolutionized the industry and the way we talk about comics the way that she has. You have absolutley heard me use the term “fridging” and that is 100% due to Gail Simone, her brilliance and her influence.

Simone then delved into what makes the X-Men such enduring characters: “Each one of them is completely different from anyone else in the world and they feel a little bit alien, misunderstood, judged all the time, all of us things that that we feel as non-new humans. And I think it’s very relatable to us as a society all over the world. And that just that part right there is what appeals to me because I can do so much.”

Gail, as expected, was a crowd-pleaser. She is funny, she is brilliant and she is so humble despite all of the incredible work. If you are watching X-Men ’97 then you are already experiencing a taste of the team that Gail will be working with. I personally am so excited for her to take on the X-Men, I think she is incredible and there isn’t a better person working in comics that could be writing for this team.
