I could talk for hours about Avatar the Last Airbender….every version of it. Obviously the cartoon is an absolute masterpiece and therefore there is always so much to say. One of the very many things that the original series does so well is the way the female characters are written. Katara, Toph, Azula, May, and Tai Lee are all brilliantly written, well rounded women. They all have vastly different personality types and therefore they interact with their world very differently.
This podcast episode of Lady Comic Book History dives deep into the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender. But this time, we’re focusing on the phenomenal female characters! Katara, Toph, Azula, Suki – these aren’t your typical damsels in distress.

That was also one of the biggest flaws of the live action. Now yes they gutted all of the characters but obviously as the female characters are the ones that I am emotionally attached too so their character assassination is definitely what I am more upset about. Now the live action did lots of things wrong but Avatar is meant to be a character driven story and there was not any character driven anything in the live action. It made the story hollow and disappointing.
