Is This Fridging? Jo – Supernatural

Published by

We have talked about fridging and what exactly this trope consists of and which characters fall into it. Now a lot of people seem to think that this trope is open for interpretation but its just not. The fridging trope has very specific requirements and if a characters death meets them, then its fridging. If it doesn’t then its not. Its really very simple and anyone claiming just any female characters death is fridging really undermines the severity of the trope and the harm it causes. We’ve talked about one of the Supernatural women already, Charlie. But another impactful death we should talk about in order to further explain this trope and what does and doesn’t fit the description is Jo – Supernatural.

This particular discussion is about Jo – Supernatural. She was also big with fans and her death was an emotional one. But emotional doesn’t necessarily mean fridged. Charlie was painful because she was fridged, Jo however went out the way she was always going to, fighting. She got hurt fighting, and still she went out swinging. All of her actions were very in character and she was not fridged. It takes more then a women we like dying to constitute fridging.
