Over the last few years I have heard the phrase “movies now suck” or something like that. There was even an entire panel at LA comic con titled “Why 90% of movies now are trash”. Now the people with this mindset don’t watch movies. They watch Marvel and DC and they think they know anything about film. This narrative is flawed for many reasons, the most obvious being that if this is how you think then that’s all you are going to attract. If I go into a film thinking “all films suck now” there is no possible way I am going to enjoy my experience. The other obvious flaw with this logic is that MOST people can’t properly assess film. If you asked any of these fucknuggets WHY they don’t like a movie they would not be able to respond with anything resembling a coherent sentence. There are going to be “bad” things in every medium. Some music sucks, some TV shows are bad and yes some movies are bad. But to make sweeping definitive statements like “all movies suck now” just makes you sound stupid. The reality we live in is that movies are the best they have ever been. Filmmakers have more freedom, more money and a greater ability to market their work. I have put together some movie statistics based on genre and quality rating from the last two years.
These stats from 2022 break down the genre and quality rating of 20 movies released that year. I have compared my personal rating to those of rotten tomatoes, Metacritic and IMDB and all of my ratings fall within 1.5 points of the other systems. That’s a very technical way of saying that I am right.

These stats from 2023 illustrate the genre of quality from 50 movies, nearly double the sample size of the year before. Either way both years illustrate that movies now are fantastic and anyone that says otherwise simply isn’t watching movies.
