By now we all know that Xander Harris from Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a Joss Whedon self insert. That certainly explains why, as a person, he sucks just so much. Xander is a whiny, entitled, disgusting excuse for a human person (and so is Joss so hey! The self insert worked!) but I could never make such a bold, distinct statement without receipts so here we go. All of the 7 seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Xander Harris proved himself to be absolutely terrible.

So when analyzing media there is this thing we have to reconcile; bad people can still be good characters. Normally this comes down to just how well written they are. Are they bad for a reason? There are a lot of factors that go into that, mostly villains can still be goo characters. But here we have a situation where Xander is not only a bad person but he is a bad character. He adds nothing to the story and nothing to the group, other then adding a few one liners and being another damsel and distress for Buffy to save. Honestly back in the first 3 episodes if we had killed of Xander and kept Jesse the world (and the show) would be a better place.
In conclusion, Xander Harris being a Joss Whedon insert makes perfect sense. And if you identify with Xander Harris or sympathize with him in any way then I please implore you to get some therapy and stay away from women. Xander Harris sucks and there is no valid reason to like him. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
