MCU Rewatch: Iron Man 3

Published by

on

I first saw Iron Man 3 in the theatres, on the big screen the way that the MCU intended. I distinctly remember it being terrible and I have not seen it since. So I only vaguely knew what to expect when we rewatched this movie. Iron Man 3 was released in 2013 and some of the creative decisions are reflections of that. Hanson, the female scientist of the movie was supposed to be the main villain in the film, not Killian. However production thought that if they kept with that they would lose money on merchandising, so they cut a lot of her screentime and kept Killian front and center.

Iron Man 3 continues the trend of using the character as American propaganda. I would like to remind everyone that Iron Man and Marvel have (or at the very least had at the time of making these films) a deal with the US military. The first two films were in fact funded by government money and the department of defense got script approval. Making the Iron Man films some of the most widespread and profitable American propaganda in existence. All that said we watched the film and it held up better then I remember it, however it is still not very good. We talk about all of the potential that the film had and where exactly it went wrong. It was critically acclaimed and actually pretty well received by audiences when it was first released. It did turn an impressive profit at the box office, in the grand scheme of the MCU I really don’t remember when the fans turned on the film. But its pretty well understood that the movie is a miss.
