Shang-Chi…4 Months Later

Published by

on

Welp we started this journey nearly 4 months ago and it is only getting worse. But in a funny way. I think. I love that after all of these watches we can still find new and exciting things to complain about. We are top tier complainers. Shang-Chi had so much potential and it was all wasted on bad writing. It really frustrates me because honestly making this movie good would have taken so little effort. Nothing is wrong with the CGI or the casting. It really is just the writing and direction. Arguably the two biggest things you need to make a movie good. The worst part is that the final movie feels like a rough first draft as far as the screenplay goes. It doesn’t feel like anyone bothered doing any edits or ask any questions about character motivation. Honestly it just feels like a lazy effort.

I am really hoping that if the second Shang-Chi movie does end up happening that we get new writers and a new director. Or that the original team does a better job of researching and understanding the world that they are supposed to be contributing to. There will be even more MCU projects out by then and it should feel like they are at least aware of the greater universe. The biggest problem with this film is that it just feels so disconnected. Shang-Chi could be a really good tie-in character. But for now he just feels like a wasted opportunity.
