Worlds collide as DC’s Suicide Squad crashes into Isekai! In this exciting new anime, Harley Quinn, Joker, and the rest of the infamous anti-hero team find themselves in an alternate reality, kicking off a wild 10-episode adventure. As someone who is still getting into anime I love that I get to do so with characters that I already love. The characterizations, story and pacing are some of the shows strong suits. I really hope that this is something that gets to continue past this first season. Whether that means more anime style DC projects, or just a new Isekai setting every season, I’d love to see more. With 6 more episodes in this season I love having yet another weekly show to look forward to. We’ve talked a lot about how animated projects getting made into live action is almost always bad, it is nice to see things get reversed a bit. I would argue most projects could benefit from being adapted into animation, there is just so much more one could do creatively.
The Future
The show’s pacing is a standout feature. The 72-hour timer, set on bombs implanted in the characters’ necks, creates a constant sense of urgency. The first four episodes cleverly cover roughly 40 hours, interspersing flashbacks for context. This deadline-driven narrative fuels the tension, making every decision consequential. The initial episodes excel at establishing the story’s foundation. Suicide Squad Isekai honors the characters’ established personalities while exploring the creative possibilities of the Isekai setting. Placing familiar characters in this new world opens up fresh and unexplored storylines, showcasing the genre’s potential for innovation. I am going to be on the hunt for more anime style Marvel and DC projects. Then perhaps we can do a ranking list. This show is so fun. If you are an anime fan, or DC fan you will love it.
