We are now 16 weeks into watching Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and we are not getting any better. I went live on TikTok this week because I really needed to do something different. I am losing it guys…the fact that we have several more months of this, 6 to be exact, makes me want to blow my brains out. This week we talk about how the writers don’t seem to have any strong feelings about anything. They seemed to want to do some feminist things and some representation things and they really didn’t do either. They seem very disconnected from their own story which is not what you want from a screenwriter.

I talk about the importance of specificity in screenwriting and why this story feels so hollow and inauthentic. A whole lot of nothing happens in this movie and after having just watched the season finale of House of the Dragon I just don’t have any energy for nothingness. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a very arduous watch that I in no way recommend. In fact I think it would be more entertaining to simply listen to us spiral while we pick apart its worst qualities. This movie is a waste of Michelle and Stephanie and at least they got Everything Everywhere All At Once.
I am personally hoping for no Shang-Chi announcement at D23. I don’t think that we are going to get one anyway. It would kind of be a let down announcement after SDCC anyway. If we get any announcements it will be Disney+ related, probably no movies. I would like to say that I did in fact write a better version of this movie. And I did it as we were watching the movie we got. So it is possible to find a good movie in here, the writers just couldn’t do it. I hope that if there is a second one, its better then this.
