Okay so there were some major announcements at SDCC regarding DC Comics. From artist switches on ongoing titles to new title announcements it was enough to get me excited. As someone who stepped away from DC comics as a whole a while ago, I was very skeptical going into this panel. I love DC characters but in the last 5-8 years the comics have not done them justice and as a fan it is very frustrating. I really only read back issues of old titles now, because that’s where the quality is.
But they made some announcements that, at the very least, were intriguing enough that I will be giving some of these new titles a try. Now they are right in the middle of the Absolute Power event. Which I really don’t care about at all. And quite frankly all of their new announcements just rendered it irrelevant. That is really the downside to comics and major storylines is there are really no stakes. At least none of any real consequence because we know that no one is really dead or depowered for very long. That said I think a soft or even another hard reboot of the DC universe actually seems overdue. What they have planned might actually work. I really haven’t been super involved with DC comics since the whole New 52 disaster happened and Rebirth was really a lot better but people (including me) were just tired of the resets. But what they have in mind for this next phase is quite interesting. And I really am interested to see where it goes, and what the aftermath for our characters might be.
