Episode 7 of House of the Dragon was great and got fans excited for what the finale had in store for us, then we actually saw the finale. Underwhelming and disappointing is quite an understatement and I am not sure that I can contain my disdain to this article but I will try. I also went live with one of my favorite TikTokers during the episode and after so that we could commiserate. Welp…here we go with the House of the Dragon season 2 finale.

This House of the Dragon season 2 finale proves that the writers do not have a gameplan and have no idea what the function of a season finale is in their story. If this were a Friends episode it would be called “The One Where Nothing Happens”. Using this as a filler, or set up episode was piss poor writing and a fundamental misunderstanding of season structure. It was bad business and I think come time for season 3 they are going to realize that. You can not stretch this out into 4 seasons and it be good. The entirety of the dance takes place over about 300 pages and that includes Viserys being named heir in opposition to Rhaenys AND the entirety of the aftermath with Rhaenyra’s son being crowned king, Aegon’s youngest dying. Everything. All of it happens in 300 pages, most of which are taken up by rumors, some are just picture pages. No writer that actually knows how to write would even try and make this last 4 seasons.
