My podcast (and now book) Lady Comic Book History had our first panel at Los Angeles Comic Con this year and it was a rousing success. I was fully prepared to give this presentation to no one but my audience plants but we had a full room. Nearly 50 people showed up to hear me talk about the thing I have dedicated the last 5 years of my life to.
It was everything I wanted it to be and more but I did forget one relatively important thing. A proper call to action. Now that we have this information, what do we do with it? Well #1 is always, go out of your way to buy and read comics written by women. Then share that fact, tell your friends, put it on social media, let people know that these books exist. Because nothing speaks louder to major corporations then money. #2 If you feel as strongly about this subject as I do, write letters. If you are reading something current and notice any of these problems, write a physical letter to Marvel/DC. Emails are easy to ignore, an overwhelming amount of letters stresses them out. We can also include calling them out on social media, and tag the creators of the book. When Marvel received backlash over fridging Kamala Khan, they stopped promoting the book and swept it under the rug. And of course #3 is a shameless self plug, support me and the writing of this book so I can share this message with as many people as possible.
