Last year on the LACC stage Hobbits Sean Astin and Elijah Wood were asked if they would ever do a panel with the other two famous shirelings. Their answer was a huge, resounding yes as all 4 of the smallest Fellowship members are still very close. So this year the Lord of the Rings boys returned, bringing Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd along with them.
Seeing all four Hobbits on stage was truly a delight. I really wish they had a better moderator. Being in control of these panels is so much more than interviewing, they are in control of the flow and energy of the panel and this guy just really sucked. He asked bad questions, he would switch topics too soon. And arguably most importantly it didn’t feel at all like he was a fan of who he was moderating and I think in of itself kind of kills the energy in the room. If anyone from LACC reads this….don’t ask him back. He was a major bummer and I absolutely could have done so much better, after I had calmed myself a little.
What the bad moderator failed to mention that I think is super important is that these four have been on this kind of reunion tour for cons for a lot of 2023 and that idea (down to the T-shirts produced) was actually born at LACC last year when Sean Astin and Elijah Wood took the mainstage.
I really loved seeing all the boys together again and they confirmed that they love working together so much that they would really like to find a project that allows them to do so again. I really hope that they get that chance because I think their friendship and energy really brings some magic to the screen and we saw that in Lord of the Rings.
