My husband and I were looking at IMDBs list of the 150 greatest shows of all time, which is entirely based off of their IMDB rating. Some of the list was excellent and some was rather questionable so I decided to go ahead and rank my top 20 shows of all time. I say rank but really these are in the order in which they popped into my head and they were not sorted beyond that. I suppose instinctual ranking is one way to do this but the reality is that I think comparing tv shows is very difficult. Too many different factors (length, genre, tone) exist to do that with any kind of honesty. So in no particular order whatsoever the top 20 TV shows of all time.

If your favorite show is missing from the list please keep in mind that very few of my favorite shows are on here. These are the most well crafted, well written shows of all time. I rewatch Grey’s Anatomy, One Tree Hill, Friends, and Big Bang Theory on a pretty regular basis but I also understand that none of those shows belong on a list like this. Pacing, writing, character development and consistency is what this list is for. However if you still feel like I’ve snubbed your favorite show then comment its title and I will check it out. Lists can easily be amended.
