Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings

We have now watched Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings for the 22nd time. This time we had a very adorable tiny guest who had some very strong opinions. He is definitely related to me. We also talk about children’s media and the industry’s and general publics attitude towards its quality. There is a lot of talk about what movies should look like based on a target demographic. But the reality is that a film is either good, or it isn’t. There is no; its good for a kids movie.

We have watched this movie so many times that I am getting pretty numb to it at this point. I was really struggling to stay awake this time. When a 9 year old can see the big, huge, gapping flaws in your film then you definitely have issues. I beg Marvel to get its shit together and stop putting out underdeveloped and under researched (if any research went into this movie at all) media. Its lazy. And quite frankly you have too much money as a company to be putting out half-assed movies. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings is just another example of Marvel thinking they can get away with minimal effort. Now the first 3 phases definitely have bad movies as well, but they at least felt like they were interrelated and a part of each other. Shang-Chi is completely isolated from the rest of the MCU. Kevin Fiege needs to get it together and actually make a plan. A plan that isn’t just a slate of films, but an actual gameplan with bullet points of what needs to be in each film and how it connects to the other.
