Hazbin Hotel Episode 4

In Hazbin Hotel episode 4 we get to see a lot more of Angel Dust. The episode starts with a trigger warning which I greatly appreciated. the episode was definitely a little brutal. I think that Angel’s story is probably one of the most heartbreaking. The amount of self medication that they go through, the fact that they kind of use their sexuality as a front for their trauma, its a lot. And when he gets told to cut it out and be really, he really breaks down because he doesn’t know how. He is starting to bond with other people in the hotel and that is a really important part of his redemption.

Angel’s story is tragic. But it’s also a really good cautionary tale. Sex work is inherently harmful to yourself, and to society. It’s not empowering and there is really no upside. But most of the time the people that get trapped in that life felt like they didn’t have any other choices. And then they just got stuck, and they ran out of options. And I’m sure plenty of people like it, but that doesn’t change the fact that it is always harmful. It hurts women, the industry is inherently misogynistic and violent. And it contributes to a very real problem with how very real women are treated. A lot of this is highlighted in Hazbin Hotel episode 4. Angel continues to be one of the emotional cores of the show. Not only because he seems to struggle the most and the deepest but because he’s such an opposition to Charlie. The first three episodes felt like a lot of set up. And now we are getting into the nitty gritty of each of the characters. I’m glad we kind of started with Angel. Though I guess we’ve seen a little more from Alastair then the others.
