Today we are talking about Vanessa from Deadpool, Wade’s girlfriend. This one is a little complicated. So I can’t definitively answer it until we see Deadpool 3. Because if we took 90% of the second Deadpool movie the answer would be yes, but at the end of Deadpool 2 Wade goes back in time and saves Vanessa which means she isn’t really dead. That said as of right now she was not fridged. Now if they don’t follow up on that in the third movie then yeah we’re gonna call it fridging. But for right now, she’s safe. There are other requirements she doesn’t meet but we’ll get into that.
This one causes a lot of debate, but here’s the thing; Gail Simone says its not fridging, so its not. She is the one who coined the phrase. She dedicated a whole website to documenting actual instances of fridging in comics. She is a woman in comics. If anyone is an expert qualified in dictating what is and isn’t fridging, its Gail. This isn’t up for debate. The requirements for fridging are very clearly laid out and Vanessa clearly doesn’t qualify.
Now things can absolutley retroactively become fridging. We should in fact wait and see the third Deadpool movie in order to truly see where Vanessa ends up. The end credit scene that saves her only negates the fridging IF they acknowledge it in the next movie. If she doesn’t even appear in the third film then we perhaps have a problem. But for right now she is in the clear.
