WonderCon was full of lots of amazing moments. We got to see film screenings, talk to the casts of several new projects and I got to do a lot of networking. But the highlight of my weekend was most definitely listening to Gail Simone speak. She has been absent from the convention circuit for quite a while but she has always been one of my favorite comic book writers. She is the creator of the term “fridging” which is what a base a lot of media analysis on. And she is one of twitters greatest trolls. Gail Simone is an incredible woman with so much talent and passion and she will now be writing for one of comic books best teams, the X-Men.
Now my favorite storylines written by Simone are definitely her run of Wonder Woman and literally any Birds of Prey book that she took part in. As the first female voice of Wonder Woman she really breathed new life into the character. Birds of Prey really only survives when Gail is the one writing it and everything she touches is gold. Simone is the person who made me want to be a comic book writer and if I manage to connect with just one person the way that she has connected with me I will consider myself successful.
