The Avengers was the first team movie of the MCU as well as the end to the iconic first phase. It holds up pretty well and remains the best film of the first phase. Bringing the team together for the first time required a lot. Joss had to set up each and every relationship dynamic as well as figure out how to bring these individual characters together as a team. And he did so brilliantly. I know that a lot of the credit for the MCU goes to the Russo brothers but the reality is that we owe the entirety of the MCU to Joss Whedon and The Avengers. You can hate Joss as a person, and you should, he sucks, but he is talented and he gave us the MCU as we know it. The drawback to his talent, of course, is the fact that we now have writers without his skills attempting to imitate his humor, giving us hollow, unearned and unnecessary “Marvel humor” moments.
I really forgot to craft a drinking game while we were watching Thor, but I will get on it I promise. But we did remember to create a drinking game for The Avengers so here you go! As a disclaimer I have to remind you to not do every square or you may die. There are so many group/team shots in this movie I don’t want anyone having to go get their stomach pumped. So please only choose one row or take very small sips.
